Mission Bay

January, 15, 2011

Today a bunch of the girls went to Mission Bay, which is a beach near the Auckland harbor. All 14 of us got a day pass for the bus and took it down together. We so looked like tourists. I am so proud of us for getting the bus system down. The drive there through Auckland was really pretty and the harbor is gorgeous. We could see one of the islands we are going to hike in a few weeks and it is absolutely gorgeous. I am pretty excited for that hike. When we got to the beach it was kinda cold and really windy, but so pretty.

Once it warmed up a little we walked over to another part of the bay and went sea kayaking and some girls did paddle boarding. It was so much fun. I think I might like sea kayaking more than doing in down some of the rivers in GA because of all the waves. We had to weave though all the boats anchored there as well which was fun. Diana and I kayaked together and really got the hang of it fast. I need to add kayaking to my list of favorite sports.

After kayaking and spending time in the sun on the beach, I have a pretty good tan now, we headed back into Auckland.A tan in January crazy, but I do love that it is summer.  The beach was full of broken shells you had to walk on to get to the water, but there was a nice grassy area to lay on. I need to get a library card so I can check out some children's books.

I think Auckland is going to be a fun city to explore. Today we went down Queen Street and looked in a bunch of the shops with little souveniors before catching a bus back to Waitakere. I love how all of us girls are laid back and can have fun. The trip today was so much fun and a huge success for our first little adventure in Auckland.
